Once finished the 2018 Medica Fair, it is time for analysis
After a few days of allowing to rest the notes, comments and mind of hustle and bustle of the most important European Fair of the medical device industry, it is time to assess the participation, not the results, something that will be seen with more distance and time.
The first thing is to thank EXTENDA for having accepted Mediwords under its umbrella and providing a meeting point within the Spain stand, a shared area that served to have a reference within the enormity of the pavilions of the Düsseldorf fairgrounds.
On the other hand, I’ve learned a lot from my fellow travelers who, through experience and know-how, master the art of moving around fairs like no one else, even though some of those teachings have arrived late for this edition: I promise not to repeat mistakes.
Anyway, there are many good things that I bring from Medica 2018: many contacts with companies in this industry that know they need professional translation services now and in the future, services that Mediwords can offer them. I have also come across companies that do not yet see the relationship between marketing their products and doing so in the language of the country they are trying to reach: it is not about educating the potential customer, it is about them taking advantage of certain benefits offered by the translation of their technical and commercial material; although all this may change with the application of the MDR2017/745. We published an analysis of this in another blog entry: https://www.mediwords.es/languages-behind-and-beyond-mdr-2017-745/
Diversity of opinions
On the other hand, I have understood that the majority of exhibitor companies want to sell their products, which is absolutely laudable and understandable, and that when an approach is made to offer them a service, many of them reject it almost immediately. Fortunately, not all of them do, and a good number were delighted to hear what I had to propose to them. To all of them, without exception, to those who kindly attended me and to those who rejected me just as kindly: thank you, one learns from everything. Next Medica 2019 will be better!
